The Power test determines your threshold power- a starting point for getting fitter, a frame of reference for getting faster and a measuring tool for going further. Prior to beginning the C-Velo program it is required to go through this baseline assessment. This can be done as either part of a group orientation class or a personal appointment.
Riding the Cycleops 300PRO, we will gain an assessment of your estimated threshold power utilizing two protocols. During the orientation class we will conduct a ramp test, gradually increasing power to a predetermined level and is sub-maximal. For private appointments and prior to the 8 week training blocks, we will estimate using a time trial simulation over 20 minutes. Both methods provide a realistic estimate of threshold power which is then utilized to determine 5 zones of training intensity for the classes. Once training in the program, periodic classes will be devoted to repeating the TT simulation so as to measure your progress. As you get fitter, your power wattage zones gradually increase, indicating a training effect and building the necessary aerobic engine to carry you farther and faster.
