The TRX (Total Body Resistance Exercise) system utilizes a single point of attachment to provide an ideal mix of support and mobility to train strength, endurance, balance, coordination, flexibility, power, and core stability all at once and across a wide range of resistance. Training movements utilizing body weight resistance on the TRX is unique from traditional exercises in that either the users hands or feet a supported by a single anchor point while the opposite end of the body is in contact with the ground. This format taxes the nervous system at a high level and can therefore provide outstanding results that train your body in the functional way that it was designed to move.
The TRX system allows you to perform a virtually endless number of suspension based exercises to achieve any fitness or performance goal. Because you can instantly modify resistance by adjusting body position, suspension training workouts are safe and effective for people of all fitness levels. At C-Velo, we have 10 suspension units available so you never have to miss a cross training workout to complement your cycling program.
Suspension training taxes your muscular system to control the center of gravity during any exercise movement. This activates the core musculature during every exercise to help stabilize and balance the body in a truly functional way. You’ll also develop your abdominals through truly dynamic movements rather than only lying on the floor like most abdominal training exercises. So with the TRX, there are a range of intense movements that can target the abdominals directly, but significant core strengthening is integrated into each back, shoulder, chest, hip and leg exercise as well. Therefore training on the TRX is “all core, all the time”.
In sports and daily activities, we move in multiple planes of motion at once. A significant constraint of traditional resistance training is that machines and even free weights limit the planes of motion possible during exercise. Suspension training allows for a limitless variation in movement angles and planes of motion for virtually all exercises, allowing you to train like you live, rather than training an isolated muscle or plane at a time.
At various times throughout the year, a 4 week suspension training block will be offered at the studio (View Current Schedule). These workouts will be offered two times/wk (session 1 and 2), are full body, with each having a slightly different emphasis of conditioning. Like all the programs at C-Velo, exercise programming utilizing the TRX system will be progressive and gradually build intensity throughout the 4 weeks. This can be accomplished by changing the body angle for greater resistance, adding kettle bells as appropriate, increasing the reps or duration of a set, or reducing the recovery intervals. A combination of all of these training parameters will be incorporated.
Check the schedule for TRX suspension training classes beginning in November offered at a variety of times for your convenience at the studio.
